Militant problems have knocked Nigeria’s production totals down significantly over the past few months. The West African country started the year with flows sitting at over 1.8 million bpd, according to OPEC figures. However the country hit a low this year in May of 1.424 million bpd.

The militant issue has allowed for Angola to overtake Nigeria as the continent’s largest producer for at least the last three months. Angola has posted production totals of at over 1.77 million bpd since March.

The two countries have switched production places once or twice over the last decade when Nigeria’s militant problem flared up in the past and Angola turned up the taps with new production.(Source: AfricaPetroleum)
