Mozambican Government has approved the proposal to build a floating platform for the exploration of natural gas in the Rovuma basin, Area 4

The Mozambican Government has approved the proposal to build a floating platform for the exploration of natural gas in the Rovuma basin, Area 4, Cabo Delgado province, the Council of Ministers spokesman said on Tuesday in Maputo.

Health spokesman and deputy health minister Mouzinho Saíde said at the end of the meeting that the government decision created conditions for the partners in that block to begin the process of financing the Coral Sul project, according to the Mozambican press.

The Area 4 block is operated by ENI East Africa, a subsidiary of Italian group ENI, the China National Petroleum Corporation, Galp Energia of Portugal, Kogas of South Korea, US group ExxonMobil and the Mozambican state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH).

Following the deal with the ExxonMobil group, the share capital of ENI East Africa was divided between ENI and ExxonMobil, with 35.7% each and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), with the remaining 28.6%.

ENH, which owns 10% of the block, recently reported that the Coral Sul project involves the construction of six wells linked to an underwater production system and the floating platform, which will have a capacity to liquify 3.3 million tonnes of natural gas per year. (macauhub)
