Oil company Wentworth Resources, involved in exploration actions in northern Mozambique, will appoint Eskil Jersing as the new CEO in the second quarter of this year, the company said in a statement.
“Eskil’s career spanning more than 30 years encompasses the exploration, evaluation, production and development of projects in many of the world’s major oil-producing basins,” said a statement from Lusa.
The new CEO moves from Sterling Energy, where he holds the same leadership position.
“We have an established and growing production base in Tanzania and resources of great potential for short-term exploration in Mozambique,” the document also reads.
Wentworth Resources (formerly Artumas Group) discovered natural gas deposits on the ground in the subsoil of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, in 2014, through the 4,500 meter deep Tembo 1 hole and plans to open another well (Tembo 2) in June 2018 to assess the existing potential.
The region of the Rovuma basin, along which the Mozambique-Tanzania border crosses, is rich in hydrocarbon reserves.
Wentworth’s discovery of natural gas came after others in the Mozambican high seas, whose consortiums led by Italy’s ENI and US-based Anadarko have already begun selling in anticipation of gas extraction and liquefaction, which is expected to start in five years time.
